TIPER (Toward a Intelligent Pyro-Ehd micro-rheometer) is a PRIN2022-funded research project carried out by three research units: DICMaPI-University of Naples "Federico II", CNR-ISASI, DICEAM-University Mediterranea of Reggio Calabria.

The project aims to develop a conceptually novel, compact, and fully automated micro-rheometer for the rapid, non-contact characterization of biological fluids, supported by Machine and Deep Learning (ML/DL) techniques. TIPER overcomes the limitations of conventional rheological methods, which require large sample volumes and are unsuitable for rare or precious biofluids, by introducing an innovative Electro-Hydro-Dynamic (EHD) technology based on the Pyroelectric Effect (PE) in ferroelectric substrates.
TIPER enables data-driven correlation between rheological parameters and disease-related alterations in biofluids, supports the rapid design of emerging liquid-based biotechnologies, and provides an integrated ML/DL “into-the-loop” platform for precise control and manipulation of liquids.
